Apple has officially launched Tap to Pay on iPhone in nine new European countries: Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland. This move brings a powerful new way for businesses — small or large — to accept in-person, contactless payments using nothing more than an iPhone and a supported iOS app. No external payment terminals or extra hardware are necessary.
Seamless and Secure Payments Using Only an iPhone
With this feature, merchants with an iPhone Xs or newer running the latest version of iOS can receive payments simply by prompting customers to hold their contactless debit or credit cards, Apple Pay, or other digital wallets near the device. The transaction is then completed securely via NFC technology.
This solution is ideal for businesses that operate on the go, at pop-up locations, or without traditional payment infrastructure. It turns the iPhone into a full-fledged payment terminal with just a software integration.

Privacy and Security by Design
As with all of Apple’s payment technologies, privacy and security are built in by default. Transactions conducted with Tap to Pay on iPhone are encrypted and processed using the Secure Element — the same infrastructure that powers Apple Pay. Notably, Apple does not collect information about the buyer or the purchased item, maintaining a high standard of user privacy.
Note: Not all contactless cards may be compatible, and transaction limits could apply depending on the payment provider and region.
