Managing multiple bank cards, juggling cashback offers, and avoiding foreign transaction fees can be a hassle — unless you’re using Curve. This all-in-one smart card lets you link your debit and credit cards into a single app, giving you more control, more flexibility, and often more rewards.

But is Curve actually worth using in 2026? What are the real benefits, hidden fees, and things you should know before signing up? In this in-depth review, we break down how Curve works, its standout features like Go Back in Time and Curve Cash, and whether it lives up to the hype compared to alternatives like Revolut and Wise.

Update (2026): In November 2026, Lloyds Banking Group agreed to acquire Curve, aiming to integrate its digital wallet technology into Lloyds’ mobile banking experience. The acquisition is expected to complete in early 2026, and Curve continues operating its standalone app and Curve Pay wallet while the transition progresses.

What Is Curve?

Curve is a smart payment solution that lets you combine all your existing debit and credit cards into one card and app. Instead of carrying multiple bank cards, you can link them to Curve and use a single Curve Mastercard to spend from any of them — whether in-store, online, or abroad.

You can choose which underlying card to use directly in the app or even change it after the fact using Curve’s “Go Back in Time” feature. Curve also offers real-time spending alerts, cashback rewards, and access to better foreign exchange rates depending on your plan.

Curve isn’t a bank. It’s a licensed e-money institution that acts as a smart layer between you and your existing accounts. You don’t store money on Curve — it simply routes your payments to your chosen card while adding extra features like security, spending control, and international perks.

It works with Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay, and is available to residents of the UK and European Economic Area (EEA).

Whether you’re a frequent traveler, cashback enthusiast, or just tired of a bulky wallet, Curve offers a streamlined way to manage your finances from one place.

How Curve Works

Curve acts as a smart payment layer that sits between you and your existing debit or credit cards. Instead of carrying multiple physical cards, you use a single Curve Mastercard (physical or virtual) to make purchases. Behind the scenes, Curve routes the transaction to whichever card you’ve selected in the app.

Setting up Curve is simple:

  1. Download the Curve app (iOS or Android)
  2. Register and verify your identity
  3. Add your Visa or Mastercard debit and credit cards (i.e. Revolut card)
  4. Choose your default card, set spending rules, and start using your Curve card

Every time you spend with Curve, it deducts the amount from your chosen funding card — without needing to carry or expose that card directly.

Curve How it works

Curve Pay & NFC Wallet Support

Curve isn’t just a smart card — the Curve Pay wallet lets you make contactless payments directly with NFC on supported Android and iOS devices (EEA/UK). It still integrates with Google Wallet, Apple Wallet / Apple Pay (See how to set up contactless mobile payments), Samsung Wallet, and Garmin Pay, but also supports native tap-to-pay via Curve Pay on phones and wearables where permitted.

App Features

The Curve app lets you:

  • Switch cards instantly (or retroactively with “Go Back in Time”)
  • Set smart rules to route specific purchases to specific cards
  • See real-time transaction alerts
  • Lock and unlock your Curve card
  • Track and categorize spending across all linked accounts

With Curve, you’re not opening a new bank account — you’re simply making your existing ones more powerful and flexible.

Key Features of Curve Explained

Curve isn’t just about simplifying your wallet — it also adds powerful features that traditional banks don’t offer. Here’s a breakdown of what makes Curve stand out in 2026:

Go Back in Time®

Made a purchase with the wrong card? Curve’s signature “Go Back in Time” feature lets you retroactively move a transaction from one card to another — up to 30 days on the free plan and up to 120 days on Curve Metal. It’s ideal if you want to switch spending to a cashback or credit card after the fact.

Anti-Embarrassment Mode

If your selected card is declined (due to insufficient funds or limits), Curve automatically reroutes the payment to your next preferred card — helping you avoid awkward moments at the checkout.

Smart Rules

Smart Rules let you define which card to use based on the type or size of a transaction. For example, you can set your Curve card to always use your business credit card for purchases over £100, or your personal debit card for groceries.

Curve Cash

Curve’s cashback program rewards you for everyday spending:

  • Get 1% cashback at select retailers (plan-dependent)
  • Cashback is credited in Curve Cash Points
  • Points can be spent directly using your Curve card

Some plans offer limited-time cashback, while premium plans like Curve Black or Curve Metal offer ongoing rewards at up to 12 selected retailers.

Curve Flex (Split Past Payments)

Curve Flex lets you convert eligible past purchases into installment payments, effectively acting like a buy-now-pay-later option. This can help smooth out your cash flow, though interest may apply depending on the offer.

Curve Fronted

Need to pay your tax bill or credit card balance with another credit card? Curve Fronted enables this, routing the transaction as a purchase instead of a cash advance. (Fees apply on most plans except Metal.)

It seems Curve uses MasterCard, Revolut its own real-time and Wise the exact mid-market exchange rates. Not all 3 the same Interbank rates.

I used Curve to set up tap and go on a Fitbit with an iPhone. Google Health Google Wallet was unable to setup the debit card due to its token being blocked somewhere on the Google/iPhone/bank security checks. Using Curve as a middleman solved this.
