Swedish fintech giant Klarna is once again preparing for a New York stock market debut, with a potential $15 billion valuation. According to insiders, the buy now, pay later (BNPL) leader could launch its IPO as early as September or October 2025, provided market conditions remain favorable.
The move comes just months after Klarna was forced to delay its previous listing plans due to tariff-related market volatility. In a memo to investors, CFO Niclas Neglen confirmed the company’s commitment to going public, saying it would “move swiftly” when the timing aligns and that shareholders would get 48 hours’ notice before the launch.
Klarna recently secured an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license in the UK, paving the way for new services such as cashback rewards for its 11 million UK customers. While the company is often labeled a BNPL provider, it continues to emphasize its broader scope, noting it has held a full Swedish banking license since 2017.
Once valued at $46 billion, Klarna’s market worth dropped to $6.7 billion in 2022 before recovering in recent years. Backed by major investors including SoftBank, Sequoia Capital, and Mubadala, the company now employs about 5,000 people worldwide.
A successful IPO in the U.S. would be a blow to the London Stock Exchange, which has been trying to attract more high-profile tech listings.
