Kraken has officially rolled out its services under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) across the entire European Economic Area (EEA) — marking a major step in its European growth strategy and regulatory compliance.

With its MiCA license now fully activated, Kraken can offer regulated crypto services to clients in all 30 EEA countries through its entity licensed by the Central Bank of Ireland. This “passporting” approach allows the exchange to operate seamlessly across the region under a single, unified set of EU rules.

What MiCA Means for Kraken Users in Europe

The MiCA framework sets consistent standards for crypto operations in the EU, focusing on consumer protection, operational transparency, and regulatory oversight. For Kraken clients, this translates into additional trust and safeguards when trading or investing in digital assets.

Under the new structure, users in the EEA can benefit from:

  • Regulated access to Kraken’s services in all 30 EEA countries
  • Trading in over 450 digital assets, with plans to expand the selection further
  • Streamlined onboarding processes and local funding options
  • Advanced institutional services, including over-the-counter (OTC) trading
  • EU-wide security and transparency protections under MiCA

Building on a Strong EU Regulatory Base

Kraken’s MiCA license adds to its existing European authorizations:

  • MiFID license – allowing the provision of regulated derivatives to advanced traders
  • EMI (Electronic Money Institution) license – enabling fiat payment services and other currency-related products

Together, these licenses position Kraken as one of the most comprehensively regulated crypto platforms in Europe, offering both retail and institutional clients a consistent, compliant, and secure trading experience.

Bottom line: With MiCA now in effect for Kraken, European users gain access to one of the most regulated and transparent crypto offerings on the market — all within a harmonized EU framework.
