Formula 1’s fintech grid is getting crowded. Following Revolut’s headline-making partnership with Audi’s future F1 team, McLaren has announced Mastercard as its new title sponsor in a deal reportedly worth around $100 million per season.
Starting in 2026, McLaren will officially race as the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team, making the global payments giant its naming partner for the first time.
A long-awaited return to title sponsorship
McLaren hasn’t had a title sponsor since its Vodafone partnership ended more than a decade ago. With this deal, it becomes the tenth F1 team to secure a title partner, joining a growing list of teams backed by major brands from fintech, banking, and beyond.
Mastercard isn’t new to Formula 1 either: back in 1997 it briefly sponsored the Lola Mastercard team — a short-lived venture that failed to qualify for its only race. The renewed push with McLaren, however, positions Mastercard at the heart of one of F1’s most iconic teams, and crucially, the reigning constructors’ champion.
Fans at the center
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown emphasized that the partnership is about more than branding:
“Our fans come first, we’re excited to bring them even closer to the team with unforgettable experiences. Mastercard is a fantastic partner who shares our passion and values… I cannot wait to see Team Priceless come to life in 2026.”
For Mastercard, the move extends its global sponsorship portfolio while tying into its “Priceless” brand platform. Raja Rajamannar, Mastercard’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, highlighted the alignment:
“McLaren Racing represents the pinnacle of innovation, precision, and performance, values that mirror our own. Becoming the Official Naming Partner takes our commitment to fans to the next level.”
The rise of fintech in Formula 1
The McLaren–Mastercard deal underlines a growing trend: fintech companies are accelerating into sports sponsorships at the highest level. With Revolut joining Audi F1 from 2026 and Airwallex also working with McLaren, the overlap between fintech brands and motorsport is becoming hard to ignore.
The 2026 Formula 1 season will now see Revolut, Mastercard, and Airwallex all battling for attention on the world’s fastest stage — a sign of how central fintech brands have become to global consumer engagement.
