Revolut, the global fintech with over 65 million retail customers, has received final authorisation from the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV), with the approval of the Bank of Mexico, to begin operating as a Multiple Banking Institution in the country.
This marks a historic moment: Revolut becomes the first independent digital bank to directly apply for and successfully complete the full licensing process “from scratch” in Mexico.

A Fully Regulated Digital Bank for Mexico
With this licence, Revolut can now offer a comprehensive suite of banking services to customers in Mexico, backed by full regulatory protection.
All deposits will be insured by IPAB (Instituto para la Protección al Ahorro Bancario) up to approximately 3.4 million MXN, providing peace of mind comparable to that of traditional banks.
The company has been preparing for this milestone for several years, assembling a local team and tailoring its award-winning app to meet the needs of Mexican consumers — at home and abroad.
“We are exceptionally proud of our team and the bank we have built here in Mexico,” said Juan Miguel Guerra, CEO of Revolut Bank S.A., Institución de Banca Múltiple. “We are grateful to the authorities for this vote of confidence and their commitment to fostering competition in the industry. This is just the beginning — we will continue to innovate and expand to serve all our customers’ needs in one place.”
Strengthening Revolut’s Footprint in the Americas
This expansion reinforces Revolut’s growing presence across the Americas. The company already operates in the United States and Brazil, and is now pursuing a full banking licence in Colombia, while also in the process of acquiring a bank in Argentina.
By securing its Mexican banking licence, Revolut positions itself as a key challenger in one of Latin America’s largest financial markets — offering an elegant, secure, and fully digital alternative to traditional banking.
