Wise is changing its ATM withdrawal pricing starting 1 May 2026 — allowing users to withdraw more cash for free, while slightly increasing the percentage fee after the limit is exceeded.
The update applies to withdrawals both domestically and abroad and affects all Wise card holders.

What is changing?
From May 2026, Wise will:
- Increase the free withdrawal allowance to €250 per month
- Remove the €0.50 fixed fee per withdrawal
- Increase the variable fee from 1.75% → 2.69% above the free limit
- Remove the limit on the number of withdrawals within the free amount
The monthly allowance will continue to reset on the 1st day of each month.
Before vs After (May 2026)
| Current | From 1 May 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Free withdrawals | Two withdrawals up to €200 total | Up to €250 total |
| Fixed fee | €0.50 per withdrawal | Removed |
| Variable fee above limit | 1.75% | 2.69% |
| Withdrawal count limit | Yes | No |
Example wise atm fee calculation in 2026
If you already withdrew €250 this month and withdraw another €200:
Fee = 2.69% × €200 = €5.38
What this means for users
The change benefits users who:
- make multiple small withdrawals
- travel frequently
- need occasional cash access abroad
However, heavy cash users will pay slightly more after exceeding the free limit due to the higher percentage fee.
Exchange rates abroad
Wise confirmed that international ATM withdrawals will continue to use its real exchange rate (mid-market rate) when converting currencies.
Users should still avoid ATM conversion and always choose withdrawal in local currency to prevent third-party markup.
ATM operator fees still apply
Independent ATM operators may still charge their own fees — something Wise cannot control.
For a practical list of ATMs that typically charge lower fees when using Wise, see our detailed guide for Wise card withdrawals.
